Purity Cult

Reclaiming Your Story: Healing from Purity Culture and Patriarchy

You know the weight of a culture that taught you obedience was holiness, that your body was a threat, and that your worth was defined by your compliance. The effects of Purity Culture and The Patriarchy run deep, distorting everything from your sexuality and relationships to your career and self-trust.

This newsletter is a space for those ready to do the brave work of unraveling those harmful threads.

What we unpack together:

  1. The Mechanics of Shame: We look honestly at the ways Purity Culture uses shame and fear as tools of control. We discuss distorted body image, toxic consent frameworks, and the crippling pressure of unattainable moral perfection. More importantly, we offer tools to process trauma and replace self-judgment with self-compassion.
  2. The Patriarchy's Blueprint: The Patriarchy isn't just about men; it’s a system of control that dictates how we value ourselves, what we believe about power, and who gets to define truth. We analyze its effects on modern faith, relationships, and professional life, and learn how to recognize and resist its subtle, pervasive influence.
  3. Cultivating Self-Trust and Intuition: Healing from trauma and control requires rebuilding your internal compass. Each issue provides supportive analysis, guided journaling prompts, and actionable steps to help you validate your own experience, trust your intuition, and stand firmly in your authentic power.

Who is behind this newsletter?

Image of Kendall Guillemette I'm Kendall Guillemette, a cisgender white man, and former Christian. I, like many of us, have been extremely impacted by the effects of Purity Culture and Patriarchy. As I continue to learn and heal, I have stopped whispering and am starting to talk. Loudly, honestly, and with a plenty of eye-rolls.

I want to bring light and community to this because the ability to share and talk about trauma is the only way anyone can learn and heal.

I'm only an expert on my experience, so I'm committed to bringing in a chorus of diverse, intersectional voices because true freedom means listening to everyone this toxic system has impacted. Let's start dismantling together.
